Contents: From the Reformation to the present. Abstract: William C. Placher begins with a decisive transition, the Reformation of the sixteenth century, and opens with an excerpt from Martin Luther's The freedom of a Christian. From the sixteenth century into the twentieth, he presents significant selections from works of the principal Protestant and Catholic thinkers. Quoted passages are accompanied by Placher's illuminating introductions. Placher adopts an ecumenical approach, representing diverse traditions. He focuses on ideas rather than on the history of institutions. Bibliographies enhance the value of this work as a theological resource. Published in: Philadelphia, Pa. Physical description: 213p.
